Privacy Policy
How we collect, use, and share information — cookies, analytics, advertising, and your rights under CCPA/CPRA, GDPR, and U.S. state privacy laws.
This Privacy Policy explains how WalletWaypoint (“WalletWaypoint,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, and shares information when you visit walletwaypoint.com (the “Site”). By using the Site, you agree to the practices described in this policy and in our Terms of Use. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site.
1. Information We Collect
WalletWaypoint is designed to be used without creating an account, and we collect as little personal information as practical. The information we handle falls into a few categories:
- Usage and analytics data: pages viewed, time on page, referring page, device type, browser and operating system, and the approximate geographic region derived from your IP address.
- Log and technical data: when you load the Site, our hosting and analytics providers automatically record standard server-log information, which can include your IP address, user agent, and request timestamps.
- Cookies and similar technologies: small data files and identifiers stored on your device that help us measure usage and, where applicable, support advertising (see Section 3).
- Information you provide voluntarily:if you email us — for example to ask a question, report a correction, or exercise a privacy right — we receive your email address and whatever you choose to include. We do not require you to register or create a profile.
- Newsletter signup: if we offer an email newsletter and you sign up, we collect your email address and the page you signed up from so we can send you the newsletter. Signing up is always optional, uses confirmed (double) opt-in, and every email includes an unsubscribe link.
- Calculator inputs:the numbers you enter into our calculators are processed in your browser to produce results. Some calculators place your inputs in the page's URL so you can bookmark or share a result — which means those values are visible in any link you share. We do not save your calculator entries to a profile on our servers.
We do not intentionally collect Social Security numbers, bank or card account numbers, login credentials, or other sensitive financial information, and you should never enter that information into our tools or send it to us by email.
2. How We Use Information
We use the information we collect to:
- operate, maintain, and improve the Site and its calculators;
- understand which pages, guides, and calculators are most useful to visitors;
- monitor performance, uptime, and Core Web Vitals (load speed and stability);
- display advertising and measure its performance, where applicable (see Section 4);
- detect, prevent, and respond to security issues, fraud, or abuse; and
- comply with our legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Use.
3. Cookies & Tracking Technologies
Cookies are small files placed on your device. We and our providers use cookies and similar technologies in three broad categories:
- Essential: required for the Site to function and load securely.
- Analytics: help us understand how the Site is used so we can improve it.
- Advertising: when advertising is active, our ad partners may set cookies to deliver and measure ads (see Section 4).
How to control cookies: most browsers let you block or delete cookies through their settings. You can opt out of Google Analytics specifically by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on, and you can opt out of personalized advertising using the tools listed in Section 4. Blocking some cookies may affect how parts of the Site work.
4. Analytics
We use the following analytics services to understand site usage and performance:
- Google Analytics 4 (GA4): measures aggregate site usage and visitor behavior. IP addresses are not stored by GA4 and data is processed in aggregate. See the Google Privacy Policy.
- Vercel Analytics & Speed Insights: measure traffic and Core Web Vitals to keep pages fast and stable. Vercel Analytics is privacy-friendly and does not use cross-site tracking cookies. See the Vercel Privacy Policy.
5. Advertising & Third-Party Ad Partners
WalletWaypoint is supported in part by advertising. As the Site grows, we display ads through third-party advertising partners — currently planned with Mediavine and Google — and their downstream ad partners. The following disclosures apply wherever ads are served:
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this Site and other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies (including the DoubleClick cookie) enables Google and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this and other sites.
- Our advertising partners may collect or receive information from the Site and elsewhere and use that information to provide measurement services and targeted ads.
How to opt out of personalized advertising:
- Manage Google's ad personalization at Google My Ad Center.
- Opt out of participating vendors via the Digital Advertising Alliance at optout.aboutads.info (or YourAdChoices) and the Network Advertising Initiative at optout.networkadvertising.org.
- In the EU/UK, use Your Online Choices.
For visitors in the European Economic Area (EEA), the United Kingdom, and other regions that require it, when advertising launches we (or our ad partner's Consent Management Platform) will request your consent before setting non-essential advertising or analytics cookies.
6. Affiliate Links
Some links on the Site are affiliate links, including links that pass through our redirect addresses (for example, links beginning with /go/). When you follow an affiliate link, your browser is redirected through a tracking URL that tells our partner the click originated from WalletWaypoint, and we may earn a commission at no additional cost to you. We do not share your personal information with affiliate partners beyond the information your browser transmits automatically when you follow a link (such as referral data). For more detail, see our affiliate disclosure.
7. How We Share Information
We do not sell your personal information for money. We share limited information only in these circumstances:
- Service providers: companies that host the Site and provide analytics on our behalf (such as Vercel and Google).
- Advertising partners:when ads are active, ad partners receive information through cookies and similar technologies to deliver and measure advertising. Under some U.S. state laws, this activity may be considered “sharing” for cross-context behavioral advertising (see Section 8).
- Legal and safety: when required by law, regulation, or legal process, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of WalletWaypoint, our users, or others.
- Business transfers: in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction.
8. Your California Privacy Rights (CCPA/CPRA)
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CCPA/CPRA), gives you the following rights:
- Right to know / access: request details about the personal information we collect, use, and disclose.
- Right to delete: request deletion of personal information we have collected from you.
- Right to correct: request correction of inaccurate personal information.
- Right to opt out of sale or sharing:opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information (see Section 9).
- Right to limit sensitive personal information: we do not use or disclose sensitive personal information for purposes that require an opt-out under California law.
- Right to non-discrimination: we will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.
We do not sell personal information for money. When we display personalized ads, the use of advertising cookies may be considered “sharing” for cross-context behavioral advertising under California law; you can opt out as described in Section 9. To exercise any right, email privacy@walletwaypoint.com. We may need to verify your request, and you may use an authorized agent.
9. Do Not Sell or Share & Global Privacy Control
WalletWaypoint does not sell your personal information for money. To opt out of the use of advertising cookies for personalized advertising (treated as “sharing” under some state laws), you can:
- use the advertising opt-out tools listed in Section 5;
- decline non-essential cookies in the consent banner where it is shown; and
- enable Global Privacy Control (GPC) in a supported browser or extension.
We treat a recognized GPC signal as a valid request to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information for the browser or device that sends it.
10. Other U.S. State Privacy Rights
Residents of states with comprehensive privacy laws — including Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, Texas, Oregon, Montana, and a growing number of others — may have rights to access, correct, delete, or obtain a copy of their personal data, and to opt out of targeted advertising or the sale of personal data. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at privacy@walletwaypoint.com and tell us which state you reside in so we can respond appropriately.
11. Your Rights in the EEA & UK (GDPR)
If you are located in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and UK GDPR apply. Our legal bases for processing are our legitimate interests (for basic analytics, security, and operating the Site) and your consent (for non-essential advertising and analytics cookies, which are requested through a consent banner where required). You have the right to:
- access the personal data we hold about you;
- rectification of inaccurate data;
- erasureof your data (the “right to be forgotten”);
- restriction of, or objection to, certain processing;
- data portability in a structured, machine-readable format;
- withdraw consent at any time; and
- lodge a complaint with your local data-protection supervisory authority.
The Site is operated from the United States, so your information will be processed in the U.S. (see Section 15). To exercise any right, contact privacy@walletwaypoint.com.
12. Third-Party Services
We rely on the following third parties, each of which has its own privacy practices:
- Google (analytics and advertising): Google Privacy Policy and how Google uses data from sites that use its services.
- Mediavine (advertising, when active): Mediavine Privacy Policy.
- Vercel (hosting and analytics): Vercel Privacy Policy.
- Email service provider (newsletter, when active): if you subscribe to our newsletter, your email address is stored with the email service provider that sends it on our behalf, acting as our processor. We do not sell or rent the subscriber list.
We are not responsible for the privacy practices of third-party sites you reach through links on the Site.
13. Data Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information, including encryption in transit (HTTPS) and reputable infrastructure providers. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
14. Data Retention
Analytics data is retained according to each provider's defaults; Google Analytics 4 retains event data for up to 14 months by default. If you email us, we keep your message as long as needed to respond and for reasonable recordkeeping. If you subscribe to the newsletter, we keep your email address until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. We do not retain personal information longer than necessary for the purposes described in this policy.
15. Children's Privacy
WalletWaypoint is intended for a general adult audience and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, consistent with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), and we do not knowingly process the data of children under 16 in the EEA/UK without appropriate consent. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
16. International Visitors
The Site is operated from the United States and intended primarily for U.S. visitors. If you access the Site from outside the U.S., you understand that your information will be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States, where data-protection laws may differ from those in your country.
17. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy periodically to reflect changes in our practices, technology, or legal requirements. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date at the top of this page, and for material changes we will take reasonable steps to provide additional notice. Continued use of the Site after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
